Hello, this is John Oszajca. I’m a musician and the creator of the Music Marketing Manifesto.
I’m going to show you how to build your fan base and make money from your music without ever leaving your home room.
Let me begin by asking a fairly basic question…
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STRUGGLING INDEPENDENT ARTIST AND EVERY ROCK STAR ON THE PLANET?
Simply said, they have a following.
I know what you’re thinking… John, you’re not joking. Tell me something I’m not aware of…
But here’s the catch…
The majority of you are out there working hard to bring your music in front of as many people as possible. However, there is a LOT of contradicting advice available. Someone wants you to concentrate on streaming, while another wants you to concentrate on sales. Someone will tell you that Instagram is the place to be, while another will tell you that Facebook is the place to be.
Spotify, Soundcloud, Youtube, and Bandcamp all have their own tactics. Email marketing, social media marketing, video marketing, bought traffic, free traffic, SEO… and the list continues on and on…
And that’s before we even start playing our instruments…
Frankly… It’s exhausting.
…and it’s not the reason you become a musician.
So, I’m going to make your life a lot simpler by telling you a simple reality…
…
FINANCIAL SUCCESS AS A MUSICIAN REDUCES TO TWO SIMPLE STEPS…
Create an audience.
Make money from your relationship with that audience.
Everything else is simply background noise.
What does this imply in practice?
It implies that if you can construct a mailing list – and, to a lesser extent, a social media following – of individuals who appreciate your music and form a relationship with them…
…then all you have to do is ask people to spend some money on your music a couple times a year.
You may accomplish this by selling CDs, box sets, performance tickets, house concerts, crowdfunding campaigns, subscription services like Patreon (or your own membership site), and so on.
However, if you can establish an audience, there is little doubt that you will be able to monetize your relationship with that audience.
…AND THERE IS NO BETTER WAY THAN FACEBOOK ADVERTISING TO BUILD THAT AUDIENCE.
Simply said, Facebook advertising is the simplest and most successful method to get your music in front of people who are likely to interact with it.
Facebook has almost 2 billion users, and there is no doubt that its targeting powers are remarkable.
You may narrow your search by hobbies, behavior, demographics, relationships, age ranges, languages, places, and more, and you can layer these options on top of each other to avoid spending money on individuals who are unlikely to be interested in your music.
Furthermore, Facebook advertising is simple, inexpensive, and quick.
And many of the new features that have been introduced in recent months have made the procedure so simple that anyone can do it.
Good music combined with a well configured Facebook ad campaign implies…
That you no longer have to go out and beg for attention… Check!
That there’s no need to tour for years… Check!
And that there is no need to waste time on time-consuming Social Media duties… Check!
Facebook advertising allows you to attract new followers. Every every day…
SO, HOW POWERFUL IS FACEBOOK ADVERTISING?
So, here are a couple quotations from artists I’ve previously collaborated with…
“My recent record, “Love Wins Again,” was digital sales and marketing director John Oszajca. The album opened at #5 on Billboard’s Blues Chart, with both the album and the song reaching #1 at Blues Radio. I found out today that the record has been nominated for a GRAMMY! Facebook advertising was critical to the album’s success, and I couldn’t have done it without John’s assistance.” Janiva Magness’s
What about this?
“We’ll pay between $1.00 and $1.70 to recruit a subscriber, and our average return on each subscriber has been $2.95 over time.” – The New Jacobin’s Xerxes Horde
Club.
A little easy arithmetic indicates that the New Jacobin Club is frequently more than tripling its expenditure in Facebook advertising, and it doesn’t get much more legitimate than a Grammy nomination.
And if you’re concerned about the cost of Facebook advertising, consider this snapshot from one of my campaigns. This is a “traffic” campaign where I was able to get clicks for as low as 3 cents!
I don’t want to imply that it’s always this simple, since it isn’t, but it does demonstrate how inexpensive advertisements may be. Because you may get your music in front of laser focused music lovers that appreciate the type of music you produce for as little as 3 cents (in this example).
But let’s not kid ourselves…
