Few schools of warfare have realized the need of teaching their practitioners in the referral system as well as Wing Tsun. Leung Ting believes that because humans are neither gorillas or bulls, we must discover ways to defend ourselves without using brute force. Training your limbs to be sensitive is essential for flowing around your opponent’s force and hitting him down.
Chi Sao, or “sticky hands,” is the second phase in learning combat tactics after Lat-Sao. You are taught at a short distance so that your arms grow sensitive to exploiting your opponent’s blunders, generating holes that allow you to trap and penetrate with blows.
Victor Gutierrez has produced two excellent movies in which he teaches how to apply the fundamentals of this beautiful exercise through practical applications, real-world combat, and explanations on the “operational” basis of Chi Sao.
