Yoshinkan is the fundamental technique in Aikido. Yoshinkan Gozo Shioda, the creator of Aikido, and the school’s best masters demonstrate. Gozo Sensei Shioda enrolled at O-Kobukan Sensei’s Dojo on May 24, 1932, and was a student there until 1941.
After the martial arts prohibition was removed by the MacArthur government in 1952, he began teaching Aikido.
Shioda-sensei got the Grand Prix as the top participant in the first post-war presentation of Aikido in 1954, in front of over 15 thousand people.
Gozo Shioda was given the 9th Dan by O-Sensei in 1961, certifying his total mastery of Aikido, and the International Federation of Martial Arts gave him the 10th Dan and the title Meijin or Grand Master in 1984.
Later, he was regarded as a leader of all martial arts and was given the title “Mu-Dan” (outside the Danes), as well as being designated as a Japanese Cultural Property.
