American Kenpo AKKS (American Kenpo Karate System) evolved from the Japanese martial art Kosho-Ryu Kenpo, which was introduced to Hawaii in 1940 by instructor James Mitose. William Chow, a Chinese-born master who was directly instructed by James Mitose and earned Huyen Dai, merged his traditional Chinese martial art Kung Fu to develop Kenpo Karate.
The martial art of Kenpo Karate was subsequently passed down to Ed Parker (1954), who has consistently refined and learnt from various Chinese martial arts such as Choy Lee Fut and Hung Gar to polish the technical technique.
Teacher Jeff Speakman studied Kenpo Karate straight from master Ed Parker in 1980, and he has worked tirelessly since then to develop and elevate American Kenpo. Master Jeff Speakman introduces us to the current version of American Kempo in the Jeff Speakman style in this package of two DVDs.
American Kenpo version 5.0 is a cross between the final generation of American Kenpo taught straight from Senior Grand Master Ed Parker to Jeff Speakman and ground fighting introduced by Mr. Speakman’s senior pupil Trevor Sherman. Mr. Sherman has reintroduced this form of combat back into Kenpo so that he and Mr. Speakman may devise Kenpo responses to protect against an opponent with these talents on the street.
To answer this growing and pervasive hole in the Kenpo world, it is updating the existing 4.0 system while maintaining totally inside the battle concepts and thinking of American Kenpo. We have been able to design a system that combines the best of these two worlds to provide our pupils the most capacity to deal with the very real possibility of being engaged in these types of altercations while staying inside these Kenpo models.
Furthermore, it enables us to continue to develop ourselves within the mind-body-spirit paradigm of a real martial spirit in order to achieve a greater degree of individual performance and continuous excellence, so strengthening the group as a whole.
The language is English.
