Learn to Read Latin is a Latin grammar and reader in one, presenting basic Latin morphology and syntax with clear explanations and examples, and it provides direct access to famous works of Latin literature even at the youngest stages of learning the language. Beginning students develop experience with patterns of Latin word order and other elements of style as they master fundamental forms and grammar, preparing them for later, more challenging readings. There is no other starting Latin book that includes intact versions of old literature. Learn to Read Latin contains the works of Caesar, Cicero, Sallust, Catullus, Vergil, and Ovid, which are organized chronologically and accompanied by introductions to each author and work. These readings serve as the primary training materials for the fifteen chapters of the book. A workbook is also provided, which has several drills for each chapter of the text. The workbook activities can be utilized in the classroom, as homework, for extra individual drill practice, or as a home study aid.
