It’s 2020.
Your fans can be found online.
You might want to look into these.
It’s no surprise that music discovery is taking place on Spotify and other streaming services. Yes, playlists are a driving force. And when an artist’s song gets included to a popular playlist, their streaming might spike in a single day.
I’ve heard of artists who were able to quit their day jobs after being included on a few scorching playlists that earned them tens of millions of streams per month (thousands of dollars per month), solely to be dropped from these playlists and have to go beg for their jobs once their streams dropped to nearly zero.
Because it is the factor. Being included on hot playlists might result in a large number of streams (from many listeners) in a short period of time.
These, however, should not be your followers.
They could be. However, they are no longer appropriate. They’re fans of the playlist on which your song was purchased. And if your song is removed, these listeners will not follow you on social media to stay in touch with you.
We live in a time where there are musicians with tens of millions of Spotify streams who can’t get 50 people to their local shows.
We’ve become too obsessed with playlists. It is exceedingly risky to rely on playlists for money. Streams alone are insufficient. You don’t only need monthly listeners. You require followers. Who remain loyal to you at all times, regardless of the platform that is hot at the time.
After all, we all know that Instagram is one of the best engagement tools that artists have right now. And it’s the most popular way for fans to stay in touch with (and collaborate with) their favorite artists. It’s now really hot. Will it be just as hot in two years? Who is aware of this. However, it is currently one of the most effective tools artists may use to create and domesticate their fans.
And it has grown to be one of the most effective strategies to discover your fans and draw them into your universe.
Getting on playlists will not help you find your online following.
…and hope that others who are passively listening enjoy the music enough to pay attention to you.
This almost never happens.
So, how can you get genuine online followers?
