Every problem has a chain of internal experiences—images, sounds, phrases, and feelings—that lead to the undesirable consequence. “Let’s imagine I had to fill in for you for a day,” for example, can open the door to eliciting this process in detail and learning exactly how it works, allowing many options for intervention.
