DescriptionCC18 Law & Ethics 02 – Steven Frankel, PhD, JD – Really Hard Work: Legal and Ethical Issues in Couples and Family Therapy (Part 02)
Description:
This six-hour session is designed to give information and suggestions to mental health professionals who assess and treat couples and families. The session opens with an update on legal and ethical changes affecting providers, followed by a discussion of risk management measures for clinicians, addressing the most essential challenges confronting clinicians in their practice. We continue to discuss critical themes in couples and family counseling such as secrecy and “secrets.” The program then moves on to a review of licensing Board complaints against couples and family therapists, beginning with facts such as the fact that the most common board complaints concern child custody disputes. Finally, we look at how Telehealth is being used to provide services to couples and families.
Objectives of Education:
Mention at least three danger issues that couples counselors confront.
In couples counseling, list at least two ways to family “secrets.”
Name at least one author of a book or research paper on couples therapy.
Name at least one organization that focuses on the education of couples counselors.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
