Chronic disappointments in adult important relationships, accompanied by severe negative emotions, stem from unmet childhood demands. Identifying these demands allows couples to empathize with one another while also understanding their own compulsive behavior. This presentation will teach therapists how to recognize early caregiver behaviors, the unmet needs that emerge from them, the defensive mechanisms used to cope with them, and a procedure for addressing these needs when they arise in everyday life.
