Dr. Robert Goulding is widely regarded as a preeminent advocate of Transactional Analysis. They came up with the Redecision Therapy method together with his wife, Mary Goulding. The Gouldings’ extensive clinical expertise informed the development of Redecision Therapy in other ways as well. They wanted to develop a short, highly-effective psychotherapy that built on the best features of Gestalt therapy and Transactional Analysis. Robert Goulding earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1944 and worked as a general physician until he decided to specialize in psychiatry in 1958. In addition to writing two books, he and his wife Mary also established the Wester Institute for Group and Family Therapy in Watsonville, California. Dr. Goulding has served on the Advisory Board of the American Group Psychotherapy Association and is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the organization. Formerly, he held the presidency of the American Academy of Psychotherapists. He is an exceptionally gifted therapist who has combined elements of Transactional Analysis and Gestalt into his own methodology called Redecision therapy.

Structural Family Therapy was created by Dr. Salvador Minuchin and is used to deal with issues within a family by mapping out the connections between family members or between subgroups of the family. He headed up the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic in a leadership role. Under his leadership, the Clinic expanded from a small operation with a few employees to a global leader in child guiding. In 1981, Minuchin established his own practice in New York City dedicated to family counseling. The building was rechristened the Minuchin Center when he left in 1996. Dr. Minuchin has written a wide variety of influential works, several of which have become classics in their fields. His most recent book is called Mastering Family Therapy, and it’s about the growth and change that may happen in the course of family therapy. In 2007, Minuchin was voted one of the top 10 therapists of the previous quarter-century in a survey of 2,600 professionals.
