Thirty-four million individuals are over the age of 65, and that figure is expected to quadruple to sixty-eight million during the next 25 years. This is a totally diverse demographic, therefore therapy for this group must likewise be different. Therapy for elders has to be brief and effective as rapidly as feasible. Many of our society’s senior citizens simply do not have the time or desire to wait months for change. The elderly population will be encountered more frequently by therapists. This course will refute some fallacies about aging and will discuss numerous brief therapy options used effectively with elderly patients. We will discuss some quick techniques to dealing with sorrow and loss, illness and suffering, and the despair that frequently accompany these issues.

The answer is yes. She is a partner in the Madrid-Los Angeles Erikson Institute and often serves on the Erickson Foundation Congress faculty. She presently lectures in Spain, Poland, Italy, Canada, and the United States for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. She has received the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis’ Lifetime Achievement Award. Her daughter, Jolie Barretta Keyser, just taught her about the power of sound, and she is now employing it with some of her private patients.

Norma Barretta, PhD, and Philip Barretta, MA, MFT, have been partners since 1948 and collaborators since 1972. They lectured regularly in the United States, Italy, Poland, Spain, and occasionally other countries. Norma maintains her own practice, and Phil works with couples and families. They frequently employed the double induction in their teamwork. They have both been recognized for their contributions to the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and are both regular ASCH faculty members. They were regular teachers for the Southern California Society of Clinical Hypnosis and currently serve on the SCSCH Board of Directors. They have contributed countless chapters to other people’s books and are now working on two of their own.
