DescriptionDescription:
Millions of people in the United States are overweight or obese. Medication and psychotherapy may result in some weight reduction, although almost all patients recover their weight within five years. The missing component for effective treatment is cognition. Individuals must learn how to change their dysfunctional ideas about food, eating, other people, and themselves in order to make permanent changes in their eating behavior, and thus their weight. They must also learn how to cope with feelings of unfairness, deprivation, disappointment, and discouragement. Cognitive behavioral techniques have been shown to be beneficial in dealing with this issue.
Objectives of Education:
Describe how to recognize faulty cognitions that underpin unhealthy eating patterns.
Describe how to assist clients in responding successfully when psychological concerns that impede weight reduction develop.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
