DescriptionDescription:
This law, ethics, and regulatory session focuses on three of the four most common reasons for actions against mental health providers across the country. Since the law/ethics/regulation training in 2010-2011 focused mostly on boundary breaches (including sexual contact between professional and patient/client), the 2012-2013 program focuses on incompetence, criminal convictions, and situations involving high-conflict custody concerns. The training stresses risk factor awareness and management in the primary areas of high risk practice using music videos that illustrate the program’s ideas. These include dealing with unfavorable online exposure, the hazards of “innovative” tactics, riskier vs. safer intervention models, dealing with the urge to “rescue” patients/clients, dealing with angry/dissatisfied patients/clients, and more.
Objectives of Education:
Describe at least two issues that arise in high-conflict custody disputes.
List at least two practice continuity criteria (private practice version) or one legislation pertaining to children who can approve their own treatment (agency version.)*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
