This session presents a framework for assessing clients on two essential factors that influence therapy outcome: motivation and sense of agency (one’s awareness of one’s own power to effect change in their own life). This assessment encourages activities that improve strategic interventions’ ability to be really short and solution focused. Participants in this session will be able to watch and practice this strategy.

Michael Munion, MA, LPC, has been a member of the Milton Erickson Foundation since 1980. He has been a psychotherapist in Arizona since 1979 and an activist in integrated primary and behavioral health care. He has given several Ericksonian and Brief Therapy workshops in the United States, Europe, and Mexico. He is co-editor of What Is Psychotherapy?: Contemporary Perspectives and co-author of Sage’s book on Milton H. Erickson.
