MRI Brief Therapy, developed by John Weakland, is one of the most successful and impactful approaches in use today. Weakland’s successful work with a spouse accused of adultery will be examined and discussed in order to show the MRI Short Therapy conceptual framework and clinical practices for competency-based brief therapy.

 

Objectives of Education:

Articulate John Weakland’s MRI short therapy’s core issue formation/attempted solution framework and associated ideas.
Describe a working comprehension of three therapeutic transformation methods pioneered by Weakland in the practice of effective short treatment.

Wendel A. Ray, Ph.D., is the Hammond Endowed Professor of Education and Professor of Family System Theory in The University of Louisiana-Marriage Monroe’s and Therapy Program (ULM). Dr. Ray, the former Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California, and a former member of the MRI Brief Therapy Center and the MRI Strategic Family Therapy Project, is still an MRI Senior Research Fellow.
