DescriptionDescription:
Based on the history of psychiatry pathologizing this tie, implying an enmeshment that contributed to the son being homosexual, the relationship between gay boys and their moms is intriguing. This relationship currently consists of an empowering link that adds to a healthy feeling of self in a society where acceptance isn’t always there. The true key to happiness is obtaining enough mothering rather than comprehensive acceptance of his homosexuality. This presenter, a homosexual male author, observes that there is little information on this subject, which led to the creation of Gay Sons and Mothers. This “documentary” is made up of photographs and tales displaying these ties, video interviews depicting the emotional elements of their relationships, and theories based on interviews and personal experiences. This workshop presents these results about mother-son dyads, tales from interviewees, and moving video clips of LGBT sons and/or moms, including the interviewer’s experiences.
Objectives of Education:
Recount how the relationship between LGBT boys and their moms is critical for the sons’ psychological development.
Explain the cultural consequences of coming out for African Americans and Latinos.
Provide three approaches for working with LGBT clients who have been abused by their moms.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
