Duration: 2:05:40 Format: Only Audio
Original air date: April 3, 2011
DescriptionDescription:
This workshop discusses and illustrates the meaning of the title, which is that most romantic partners have no idea what they are doing or why. This is due to partners’ internal working models, anticipatory neurobiological systems, and moment-to-moment feeling of safety and/or threat driving them toward and away from one another. These systems are extraordinarily quick and function below the level of conventional cognition or knowing. In the lack of knowledge, partners must confabulate to explain their actions and the implications of their actions. Participants will learn how to engage with the phenomenon of “not knowing” from a psychobiological standpoint, as well as “bottom-up” treatments for avoiding conventional cognitive mechanisms that might distract and misdirect therapy.
Objectives of Education:
Use at least three techniques to expose and measure psychobiological processes in couples.
Use at least three bottom-up interventions with distressed couples.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
