Sexual infidelity frequently precipitates a crisis that jeopardizes a couple’s whole basis of trust and connection. We’ll talk about the intricacies of marriage, sex, intimacy, and monogamy in couples from a multicultural, nonjudgmental standpoint in this class. We’ll look at the reasons for affairs and what they could indicate in various heterosexual and gay partnerships. We’ll look at the pros and drawbacks of honesty and openness, how couples may reestablish trust and intimacy, and why infidelity can really save a marriage. With an eye on the existential, clinical, and ethical implications, we will examine how our own assumptions, attitudes, and personal experiences might impact our therapeutic work and obstruct the couple’s needs. We will set out a sophisticated therapeutic method for coping with extramarital encounters, past and current, imagined or actual, disclosed or veiled in secrecy, using didactic material, case studies, and video vignettes.
Objectives of Education:
Show how the therapist can assist couples deal with the crisis of infidelity and turn it into an opportunity by creating a secure and flexible atmosphere.
