Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy TM addresses the most difficult situations by addressing issues of character. “Other Workshops Teach You Skills: We Deal With the Part of You That Won’t Use Them,” he says at the start of his Relationship Bootcamp. WHAT YOU DO is less important than WHICH PART OF YOU is driving—the adult, present portion of you or the immature, triggered part of you. “We educate individuals in partnerships how to be relational, transforming each person’s character as the connection between them changes.” RLT uses the existing relationship as both leverage and a laboratory in which individuals may acquire and perfect the discipline of “relational mindfulness”—the practice of putting your best self into play even in the most tense situations.
