DescriptionPart 3 of CC17 Law & Ethics 03 – “What Comes Around…” – Steven Frankel PhD, JD, ABPP
“What goes around…” focuses on current and emerging legal and ethical issues that will affect physicians of all specialties. Beginning with changes to child abuse reporting obligations, the workshop moves on to changes for custody evaluators, record-keeping and maintenance, emerging issues and risks in telehealth practice, updates on duties to inform and warn when violent behavior is likely, modifications to laws governing “retirement” of professionals, receiving subpoenas, testifying in court, risk management for supervisors, suicide risk management, and “selected slippery slopes.”
Objectives of Education:
1. Name at least three areas of practice where legal/ethical developments have occurred in the last 5-10 years.
2. Describe the most effective method for keeping clinical records of patient/client treatment.
3 Identify two major issues that doctors who want to deliver telehealth services face.
4. Provide two important warnings to professionals who receive subpoenas for patient/client documents.
5. Explain the distinctions between three types of witnesses in court.
6 Identify two “slippery slopes” of clinical risk management concern.
