RAY CORSINI, Ph.D., was a retired University of Hawaii Professor of Psychology. He’d been a private practitioner for 35 years. Dr. Corsini has written or edited 18 works in counseling or psychotherapy and has published over 60 publications under 43 names, including four encyclopedias and the most extensive lexicon of psychology. He is recognized in the 1997 editions of Who’s Who in America, Contemporary Authors, and the Biographical Dictionary of Psychology.

Raymond Corsini’s education was varied. He earned a BA and an MA from City College of New York before pursuing doctoral studies at Syracuse University, Cornell University, the University of California, and the University of Wisconsin (all while working as a prison psychologist), and finally earning a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago under Carl Rogers at the age of 41. He met and engaged with J.L. Moreno, Fritz Perls, Victor Frankl, and Albert Ellis, among others, but his primary tutor was an Adlerian named Rudolf Dreikurs. He had three independent careers: 15 years as a prison psychologist, 10 years as an industrial psychologist, and 30 years in private psychotherapy and counseling practice. He taught classes at over a dozen institutions over the summers and full-time at the University of Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Judd Marmor, MD, was an American psychiatrist who was instrumental in the removal of homosexuality from the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Judd was a psychiatry adjunct professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Franz Alexander Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He has been a practicing physician for for 50 years, after graduating from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1933. He is a past president of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, and the Group for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis and Psychiatry. He has received the American College of Psychiatrists’ Bowis Award for Outstanding Achievements in Leadership in the Field of Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association’s Founders Award. Dr. Marmor served on 14 journal editorial boards. He wrote five novels and co-wrote one. He has authored or co-authored over 300 scholarly articles. He has written extensively on psychoanalysis and human sexuality.

Dr. Yalom is an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine. His main areas of interest are group psychotherapy and existentially oriented inter-personal individual treatment. In recent years, he has taught the technique of psychotherapy via storytelling, employing short tales and novels.

Dr. Yalom received the American Group Psychotherapy Association’s (AGPA) first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award on March 6, 2017 in New York City, during the 75th annual conference.
