So many horrific things are dressed up and parade around, yet our profession remains eerily silent. Things on this world are in a state of medical emergency, threatening extinction, and the medical profession is much too in the background. Patch wishes to inspire our profession to sense and change. Mental illness may be a typical reaction to this calamity, necessitating action to establish healthy environments rather than treatment.

 

Objectives of Education:

To indicate a role that people in health-related professions may play in igniting global change.
To list three approaches to fostering healthy environments in the face of calamity.

Hunter “Patch” Adams, MD, is a member of the faculty. Seminars and items related to: 1

Founder and Director of the Gesundheit Institute, a West Virginia holistic medical community that has offered free medical care to thousands of patients since its inception in 1971. Dr. Adams is the author of Gesundheit, which details his opinions regarding the United States’ health-care system. He is a prominent medical doctor, social activist, professional clown, and the subject of the blockbuster film Patch Adams. Patch Adams, who has dedicated his life to the study of what makes people happy, feels that laughter, pleasure, and creativity are essential components of the healing process.
