The three primary emotions that fuel most human emotions are anxiety, fear, and shame. Our environment and relationships grow or shrink in direct measure to our capacity to manage these tough emotions. Dr. Lerner unveils the underlying mischief and wisdom of these unpleasant emotions and provides a useful and fascinating viewpoint on the various faces of bravery.

Harriet Lerner, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and feminist theorist and therapist.
She worked as a staff psychologist at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas, and as a faculty member and supervisor at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry from 1972 until 2001. She worked significantly on the psychology of women and family connections during this time period, modifying standard psychoanalytic ideas to fit feminist and family systems viewpoints.
