Olga Silverstein was a well-known therapist and educator. She specialized in family counseling and published numerous parenting books, including The Courage to Raise Good Men. She immigrated to the United States at the age of seven, married young, and stayed at home with her three children until she was forty. She earned a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree, and a master of social work degree during the next seven years. She co-founded the Ackerman Institute’s Brief Therapy Project with Peggy Papp in the mid-1970s.
During the 1970s, she and Papp collaborated with Betty Carter and Marianne Walters to develop The Women’s Project in Family Therapy. They concentrated on evaluating the sexist issues and beliefs that dominated their therapy practice, and they quickly began to provide courses on women’s interactions in families in the United States and overseas. The four colleagues from this experience wrote the groundbreaking and iconic study, The Invisible Web: Gender Patterns in Family Relationships.
