DescriptionDescription:
Szasz examines the role of responsibility in religion, civil and criminal law, medicine, and the mental health professions; the distinctions between existential responsibility, moral blameworthiness, and legal accountability; the links between (mental) competence and responsibility; and how all of this relates to issues in psychotherapeutic theory and practice.
Objectives of Education:
To express the notion of responsibility as inherent in recognizing people as moral agents.
To reconcile the tensions between our knowledge of the nature of responsibility and our understanding of the therapeutic effort.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*
Faculty
Dr. Thomas Szasz’s related lectures and products include: 44Professor of Psychiatry at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, Thomas S. Szasz (M.D., University of Cincinnati, 1944). He received various honors, including the American Humanist Association’s Humanist of the Year Award and the American Institute for Public Service’s Distinguished Service Award. He has received many honorary doctorates and lectureships, as well as serving on the editorial boards or as consulting editor for eleven publications.
Szasz has written almost 400 articles, book chapters, book reviews, letters to the editor, and columns. He has published 19 novels.
