MRI Brief Therapy, developed by John Weakland and Richard Fisch, is one of the most successful and important approaches in use today. Weakland and Fisch’s contributions to interactional theory and treatment will be outlined using original publications and clinical recordings. The conceptual underpinning for MRI Short Treatment as well as clinical procedures for competency-based brief therapy will be illustrated.
Objectives of Education:
Explain Weakland and Fisch’s MRI short therapy’s core issue formation/attempted solution framework and associated ideas.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the therapeutic transformation techniques pioneered by Weakland and Fisch in the practice of effective short treatment.*Content and confidentiality may be modified during sessions*

Wendel A. Ray, Ph.D., is the Hammond Endowed Professor of Education and Professor of Family System Theory in The University of Louisiana-Marriage Monroe’s and Therapy Program (ULM). Dr. Ray, the former Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California, and a former member of the MRI Brief Therapy Center and the MRI Strategic Family Therapy Project, is still an MRI Senior Research Fellow.
