Linda Curran will be joined by trauma specialist Babette Rothschild for the whole one-on-one conversation. Rothschild, the author of several publications on traumatic stress, provides physicians the benefit of her years of experience in Somatic Psychotherapy. Rothschild walks doctors through the “how to” and “how not to” of trauma therapy, with an emphasis on approaches for Safety and Stabilization, such as dual awareness and her unique “putting on the brakes.” PTSD (Post-Terrible Stress Disorder), according to Rothschild, is an indication that the body and mind have not yet accepted that a traumatic incident has ended. As a result, the neurological system continues to mobilize the muscles and other defensive mechanisms (fight/flight) and/or numb the body (freeze). Rothschild describes the function of interoceptive and exteroceptive signals, teaches clinicians on how to train clients to appropriately assess current (vs. previous) danger, and lays forth a cohesive psychophysical theory of trauma and its sequellae.

Babette Rothschild, MSW, LCSW has been a psychotherapist and body-psychotherapist in private practice since 1976, and a California Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1978. She is a member of the Association of Traumatic Stress, as well as the International and European Societies for Traumatic Stress Studies. Babette has significant training in Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Psychodrama, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and Somatic Experiencing. She is also a qualified Bodynamic Analyst and Radix Teacher.
