They claim that health is riches. And we frequently fail to remember this adage. Aside from pain or suffering, we are unable to enjoy any aspects of our material life without good physical, mental, and emotional health!
With this in mind, I’d like to talk a little bit about BaZi and health this week, focusing on overall concepts and application. However, as we all know, each body part can be represented by a Heavenly Stem or an Earthly Branch.
Jia, for example, might symbolize the gallbladder, whereas Yi represents the liver. Ding signifies the eyes, while Bing represents the shoulder. Wu represents the back, while Ji represents the stomach. Geng represents the huge intestines, whereas Xin represents female genitalia. Ren and Gui can stand in for “water” organs like the kidneys and bladder (for further details, you can refer to many of the books and materials produced by the Academy).
One simple method to connect bodily parts to elements and branches is to remember that fire climbs to the top and water sinks to the bottom. That is why “fire” portions tend to be on the upper body and “water” parts tend to be on the lower body!
While teaching a recent class, I reminded the students that, while the BaZi chart can represent and predict one’s personality, issues, and highlights, the chart only contains the key issues and representations. After all, the static BaZi chart can only accommodate four stems and four branches; similarly, the chart cannot accommodate all body parts!
As a result, what’s on the chart frequently represents possible difficulties with the parts in the chart. However, we can also determine which elements are severely deficient or absent, as these may also indicate potential problems in the physical body (correspondingly, the parts represented by other stems, branches and elements not included you can safely assume are generally ok).
Consider the overall balance. Is there a particularly potent element? If this is the case, it may indicate a problem area, such as when that element is suddenly weakened in a particular Luck Pillar. Furthermore, an element that is too powerful will “attack” the element it controls, causing the body part associated with the attacked element to suffer.
Layer on stem and branch relationships such as clashes, harm, and destructions to further assess health aspects. Check to see how and importantly, v*when* these relationships occur. Keep in mind that the dynamic aspects of BaZi (what’s stems or branches have made an appearance in the Luck and Annual Pillars, for example) will play a key part as well.
