Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is a post-traumatic stress disorder clinician, researcher, and educator.
His research blends developmental, neurobiological, psychodynamic, and interpersonal components of trauma’s impact and therapy.
Dr. van der Kolk and his colleagues have published extensively on the effects of trauma on development, including dissociative disorders, borderline personality disorder and self-mutilation, cognitive development, memory, and the psychobiology of trauma.

Dr. Peter Levine is a doctor of medical biophysics and of psychology. He created Somatic Experiencing® (SE), a naturalistic body-awareness approach to trauma therapy that he teaches all over the world. Dr. Levine is also the founder of the Foundation for Human Enrichment and worked as a stress consultant for NASA during the space shuttle’s construction.
Dr. Levine is a popular author who has written books such as Healing Trauma, Sexual Healing, and Waking the Tiger. At the University of Rochester, Robert Scaer earned his B.A. in Psychology as well as his M.D. He is Board Certified in Neurology and has been in practice for 39 years, the last twenty of which he served as Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Mapleton Center in Boulder, Colorado. His principal areas of interest and expertise have been in brain damage and chronic pain, and more recently in the study of traumatic stress and its involvement in all mental illnesses, as well as physical symptoms and many chronic diseases. He has given several lectures on these subjects and has written several publications on whiplash and other traumatic stress diseases. The Body Bears the Burden: Trauma, Dissociation, and Disease, his debut book, provides a novel explanation of dissociation and its significance in numerous diseases. Stephen W. Porges, PhD, is a Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University and the founding director of the Kinsey Institute’s Traumatic Stress Research Consortium.
