Harmonic Subtones’ Passionate Cello is a virtual instrument with a strong and emotional sound that offers up hitherto unseen possibilities of expression.

The Emotional Cello shines via a range of limited articulations, a direct and pure sound, as well as unconventional playing techniques and rebowing, whether in cinema score, pop music productions, songwriting, classical music, or current, avant-garde cello compositions.

Sampling in Context

“Contextual Sampling” is the principle behind Emotional Cello, in which all samples are always captured in a musical context to capture the natural bowing and expressiveness of genuine instrumentalists. Real vibrato recordings are vital in this method since they are always more motivating and authentic than creating a manufactured vibrato.

Patches, Articulations, and True Legato

Emotional Cello was built from approximately 100 articulations and modifications. Numerous articulations are meaningfully connected together by an intricate and clever script so that they match the user’s playing style.

The collection includes three master patches: “Emotional Cello,” “Sulponticello,” and “Harmonic Cello.” Because of “True Legato,” they include the majority of the recorded articulations, which logically interlock and give an aesthetically aligned sound. Three different transition types have been captured in multiple sessions and imitate genuine shifts in bowing direction or impassioned portamento while playing, among other things. The Specials Patch includes several uncommon articulations and effects, while the Stackable Patch has the primary articulations with standardized key flipping to match the stackable patches of Emotional Violin and Emotional Viola.

Key Switches with Decoration

Another fantastic feature is the Ornament Key Switches. These, unlike the articulation key switches, are only transitory and allow for changes on the previously selected articulation. The present playing style can be faded into another articulation or variants can be made by hitting one of the Ornament Key Switches. Last but not least, the Ornament MKS has standard effects like as glissando, flageolet, and many more.

To tailor the sound of the Cello to your preferences, you can apply effects built specifically for the instrument. A 3-band EQ, a switchable sordino, and a timbre function are among the features. The latter includes 15 convolution-based presets created by recognized and experienced sound engineers enabling simple and distinctive manipulation of the fundamental sound.

There are also timbre EQs that set the viola in its right location in the orchestra room for the usage of the Cello as 1st chair cello in an orchestral situation. The “Room” and “Reverb” modules, which employ professionally recorded convolution reverb settings to recreate the sound of real rooms and may also be changed individually, add the finishing touch.

The Documentation

Emotional Cello was recorded in a wood-paneled room with high ceilings and the greatest possible distance from the wall at the Mastermix Studio in Munich. For close recording, two Neumann microphones, types KM184 and U87, were employed for maximum versatility. The room was kept relatively modest in this way, and you may then construct your preferred sound with your own effects. You may, however, utilize the built-in Convolution Reverb.
