How are things going? I’m Sam from Reviews Boss, and I’m back with another review. Today I’m going to tell you about a product that I’ve had my eye on for quite some time. It’s a training tool. I’ve just shifted away from my typical concentration, which has been on software programs and the like, and am getting back to basics.
The product in question is called Double Your Freelancing Rate, and it was created by Brennan Dunn. And I initially learned about this product because, if I recall properly, I saw a Facebook ad or something similar from Brennan Dunn about improving freelancer rates.
And, as I’ve mentioned in a few previous reviews on this site, one thing I’m considering doing in the near future is expanding my consulting and freelancing company. So, for the time being, I’m employed, I have a job, I do some freelancing consultancy work on the side, and I also maintain this blog. And I have several additional ventures in the affiliate area that mostly involve social media, such as promoting Facebook groups and pages. So, as you would think, I’m a busy man.
But, you know, what freelancing and contracting has taught me so far is that there is a market for the talent I have in digital strategy. Almost like a virtual marketing management system for businesses with multiple contractors who may be working with them. STO guy[inaudible 00:01:41] and a PPC agency and a social media marketing firm, and they don’t always communicate. There is no one point at which all of those agencies can communicate and the firm in issue can spread its ideas and requirements.
This type of strategy and virtual marketing management is where I want to take my consulting firm. And obviously, I was intrigued in what Brennan Dunn was saying because who doesn’t want to quadruple their freelancing rate? My freelance rate is already much greater than my normal work rate. I wouldn’t need to work that many hours per week to replace our paid income at the rate I’m already earning. And if you can double that pace, or even more, you’ll need less hours or, you know, you can accomplish much better with the same amount of time. So that’s a general idea of where I’m at and why I’m interested in this product.
As I’ve begun to take my consulting and freelancing more seriously, I’ve decided to take the leap. I’m going to acquire Double Your Freelancing Rate by Brennan Dunn. His blog contains some free stuff. It’s actually rather good. Almost all of his articles have been read by me. I read his newsletters and such such stuff. Finally, I should have suggested, “Hey, see, let’s try; purchase the thing.” It gives me an opportunity to review something else here, which is a good thing. So let’s get started with the review.
So, how much is double your freelance rate? It is, as previously said, a training product. It’s similar to reading an ebook online. So you don’t only receive a PDF to download when you buy the goods. I assume mostly because people would start distributing and uploading it to black hat sites and other such things. So you actually have to log in, and when you pay, you get the log in delivered to you. After that, you’ll be able to access the product. To be honest, it’s a rather short product. It’s not all that complicated. There are several perks and extras that we will discuss later.
However, the product’s heart is a brief sequence of courses or chapters that go on to introduce fundamental principles about freelancing and consulting. Considering the types of issues that most freelancers and consultants encounter, particularly in terms of fees and how they generate money. And then we’ll go over step-by-step what you can do to truly boost the rates you make. And I mean truly, for a short ebook or e-course, as the case may be. There’s a lot to it in terms of the actual quality and content of the class you’ll be taking. So what I’ll do now is talk about what I appreciate about the product and what I don’t like about it. The main point is that it is a basic product in comparison to a lot of the software I evaluate here. Many of the other training courses will take you around an hour to complete all of the instruction. That is assuming you are a rapid reader; if you are a slow reader, you may need two. I’m not sure. That is only the basic training. It’s not the extras and perks that come with it, as I’ll explain later.
But have a look at what I enjoy about the product Double Your Freelancing Rate. The first thing I enjoy about it is the high quality of the instruction. I’m a great believer in the value of quality above quantity. I must confess that I was a little disappointed when I initially opened the package and glanced through the chapters online. And I thought, “Wow, you realize how much I’ve spent?” It’s roughly $300 in US dollars, which is about $500 in my local currency. It’s a large sum of money. And, gosh, there’s not much to it. There are only a few chapters, and they aren’t extremely long. On first glimpse, I thought, “Man, I’ve got me jupped here.” This is a swindle.” But then I responded, “No, I’m going to read,” rather than rushing for the exits and requesting a refund. I’m going to sort of, I think, rate the product based on its quality rather than its number of substance.
And I am glad to report that it is excellent. It contains stuff that, if you read it and apply the ideas and lesson, I believe you will be able to quadruple your freelancing rate. I mean, not everyone is made out for freelance success. If you’re one of those individuals that thinks you just have to charge [inaudible 00:06:32] and do a lot of effort, this product isn’t for you. But only if you’re on the verge of receiving some decent rates. And if you already earn a respectable wage but want to boost it, products can definitely assist.
Much of what it does is provide you with really solid ideas to adopt in order to raise your earnings virtually overnight by raising your prices. In terms of content and what it teaches, I believe it is excellent. You probably find this content, all these lessons and tidbits and strategies by browsing different free blogs, going on Revit freelancing forums and those kinds of things, and you’ll eventually be able to get it all together in one place, but I believe time is money, and what Brennan Dunn has done with this product is sort of combined some of the best advice I’ve seen on increasing your freelancing rates. Being able to ask for more money with confidence. The ability to illustrate the worth of what you’re delivering. Moving away from “this is my alley rate and this is how many hours it will be” projects and toward value-based initiatives, where your alley rate potential is immense.
If you can, I believe the idea he is attempting to instill in you is that if you can charge $5000 for what takes you an hour, but the customer receives more than $5000 in value, why shouldn’t you? Everyone comes out on top.
At the end of the day, our solution is about sharpening your consulting and freelancing company by spending less time on low-value customers. You’re devoting more time to high-value clients who can afford to pay your higher charges. That implies you can provide them with superior service. It’s the same reason that when you fly in business or first class, you get far superior treatment than when you go in economy. There are the same amount of employees in those different portions of the cabin, but because first class and business class flights are attended by fewer people, they are able to focus more attention on them, which makes them feel wonderful. It’s similar in this case.
That, I believe, is the primary lesson at the center of this offering. So, sure, I truly like the training, but I don’t want to reveal the details. I believe you’ll be able to figure out some of these on your own. Despite reading the sales pitch and promotional material around the offer, the general training quality in this software is excellent. I truly give it a high rating. I believe another advantage is that, although being brief and short, you can probably read it on a short flight or something similar. That’s great news. You know you shouldn’t be reading ridiculously long training eBooks that don’t actually provide value and are full of fluff and other nonsense. This is just hard hitting, to-the-point material, good information, quality information that I believe you can rely on. And the lessons you learn will work if you apply them.
Which leads me to my second point regarding the product: I have already noticed that by putting the skills I gained from reading Double Your Freelancing Rate into practice, I have boosted my freelancing rate. I wouldn’t say I’ve doubled it yet, but it’s a considerable increase in pay per hour. And it’s given me the confidence to go out there and say, “This is what my time is worth,” or “This is what I believe customers are getting in terms of value for the time they spend with me.” Anyone who has done freelance, consulting, or contracting will know that the worst part is when the customer asks you for a quotation and you say “oh crap” if I charge too much, they’re going to run for the hills and go to the next supplier, who will perform a cheap service. I believe that a big part of what makes Double Your Freelancing Rate so effective is that it gets you in the mentality of declaring that a customer like that isn’t worth it in the first place.
To be honest, cheap clients are a nightmare to work with. They are always the ones with the most issues. They’re the ones that want unlimited modifications and are never satisfied. They scream at every project. I’m able to maintain my current client base. I’ve previously worked with a number of them. I took on their work because I couldn’t say no or because it was something I needed at the moment, and they’ve always turned out to be more bother than they’re worth. Whereas the one with whom you have a solid connection and who you charge a reasonable cost that you are comfortable with is frequently the best relationship because they are serious professional business people who understand the importance of working with a competent contractor, consultant, or freelancer.
Doubling Your Freelancing Rate will also assist you in moving away from relying on and feeling obligated to rely on low-value clients. There are others out there that will keep an eye out for those low-value clients. It’s okay to move on or decline working with them as long as you do it gently. At the end of the day, someone who feels they should be spending $250 a month for an ECO eCommerce website is never going to think they should be paying ten times that, or even fifty times that, to get a good return on investment. They’re simply locked in the mindset that cheap is wonderful, “I need inexpensive.” Don’t squander your time collaborating with them.
And, in addition to the advice on raising your freelancing or consulting rates, I believe Brennan Dunn has done an excellent job of instilling in you the importance of saying no to low-value customers. If your standard rate is $100 per hour and you’re taking on customers at $30 per hour, for example, or $40 per hour. That’s a waste of time in many ways, since you could find another high-value customer who pays you $100 per hour, if that’s what high-value means to you. You might take on the $30 per hour customer for 10 hours per month, which means you can’t serve the person who is prepared to pay $100 per hour for 5 hours per month, who would have been worth more to you and in less time. So this is truly high-quality instruction.
Other things I enjoy are the provided goodies, which are rather fantastic. I had mixed feelings regarding the templates that were supplied. I didn’t since they were wonderful, but the freelancer guild is worthwhile. It’s similar to a private forum. It’s really evident that [inaudible 00:13:36] is offering valuable ideas, and it’s definitely worth entering into that community and browsing around.
However, the biggest advantage of the program is how it prepares you for the process of boosting your freelance fee. It illustrates why low interest rates are detrimental. It outlines what you need to do to deliver effective value propositions to your clients and how to increase recurring income at your clients. Things include setting up a retainer agreement and the like. Overall, the curriculum has a lot of advantages.
That is not to claim it is without flaws. There are a few drawbacks that I’d like to discuss with you today. The first is the cost. I believe it is a tad pricey for what it offers in terms of training. And what I mean by that is if you take action and raise your rates. Well, the value there makes it worthwhile. And I guess in many ways, Brennan Dunn is demonstrating the value of the training he provides by charging a higher price for what appears to be a smaller amount of information, but the value is extremely high. However, if you are a price-conscious purchaser of training products. You might discover that $300 US dollars or so is out of your price range. Obviously, I’d like to see the prices reduced. Because it is a product on which he is likely to make a 95% profit margin. However, the value is there. So I’m not going to go on the offensive and say it’s overpriced. If you put the lessons into practice, I believe the price is reasonable for the value you receive. However, keep in mind that the price is quite high.
Another thing is that it feels like a fairly empty product in terms of content, but the quality of it and the value you get out of what is there is very good. However, if you are the type of person who would rather go to a buffet than a high-end restaurant because you enjoy a wide variety of foods. You’re probably gonna feel let down by this product. But apart from that I don’t see too many other downsides.
I would like the ability to download a PDF version or something like that. I don’t like having to access the product through an online sort of gate only. That to me is a little bit annoying just because you gotta remember login details. It sort of feel a bit like you paid this money and he doesn’t trust you or the creator doesn’t trust you not to go sharing it around with everyone else. Which I guess fair enough concern with an info product as opposed to a software, but it still be nice to be able to have a version where its all in one sort continuous PDF or something like that. But that’s a minor gripe. The system that’s in place works really well.
But look moving on to the conclusion, overall, Double Your Freelancing Rate where do I stand on that? It is expensive. There’s not a huge amount in it, but what’s there is very good. I’ll go back to that restaurant analogy. It’s exactly like going out for dinner to really top end restaurant where the food is beautiful. You sit there and the food comes out and you might look at the plate and go “I’m spending so much money on this and I’m not getting much for that money”, but then you take a bite and you realize how good it is. Versus going to a Pizza Hut all-you-can-eat and stuffing your face and then getting home and feeling like crap.
Value and price, all day long. What Brennan Dunn has done here is actually created a system in which you can see the value. Just like he is encouraging you to do with your clients, you’re prices are gonna go up if you read this book and you implement his strategies. And your prices are gonna go up significantly for the hourly rate you charge for the per project price or your retainer price or whatever price you’re charging. The price goes through the roof, but the value of the client is actually better, and that’s what really counts.
Even though it is an expensive product, the value is there. As long as you’re willing to apply the lessons. If you just buy it and read it and don’t do anything, well don’t waste your time because that’s a lot of money. You could spend that on something else. If you’re a serial info product buyer, I would probably say stay away from it. Because I can almost guarantee that what you’ll do is you’ll buy it, you’ll read it, and you’ll put on your virtual shelf and never put it into action. But if you are seriously interested running a freelancing or consulting business, then yeah I do think this product is worth it. I do recommend Double Your Freelancing Rate by Brennan Dunn. He’s done and excellent job at teaching you the strategies you need to know as well as the mindset you need to have to go out there with your freelance offering or your consulting offering and get more money out of existing clients and also get more money out of prospective clients.
If you look at the most successful consultants and freelancers there often ones who charge pretty high rates. Usually, the people who fell like they can only get by on price, are the one who struggle. They’re so dependent on sort of turning over a high volume of work. They burn themselves out. If you think your only differentiating factor is price in terms of the service you offer, your business probably isn’t gonna last very long. You want to be working with clients who recognize value who are willing to pay for that value. And I Double Your Freelancing Rate does an excellent of getting you in the state you need to be in mentally and in terms of real actionable strategies you need to get there.
So yeah Double Your Freelancing Rate – sure it’s pricey but the value is there. If you want to run a successful freelance or consulting business I do recommend buying it. It’s really good. You won’t regret it.
