Brian Kaufman, DO investigates the history and use of hypnosis in medical practice for weight reduction, smoking cessation, pain treatment, and other purposes. Includes a demonstration for participants!

This presentation’s goals are as follows:

Recognize what hypnosis is. 2. Recognize the history and current use of hypnosis in medicine. 3. Recognize some relevant indications for medical hypnosis referral.

The American Osteopathic Association has approved the Maine Osteopathic Association to offer doctors with osteopathic continuing medical education.

The Maine Osteopathic Association has designated this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credit and will submit CME and specialty credits based on the level of the physician’s involvement in this activity.

Dr. Kaufman grew up in New York and earned an Honors degree in Chemistry from Stony Brook University. After graduating from UNECOM, he completed an internal medicine residency at Winthrop University Hospital, followed by a one-year fellowship in Neuromusculoskeletal medicine. Dr. Kaufman relocated to Maine and established a private practice concentrating in internal medicine, neuromuscular medicine, pain management, and addiction medicine. He received his Pain board certification, and he just received his fourth board certification in Addiction medicine. Dr. Kaufman has taught for both the MOA and the AAO at the AOA OMED conferences. He wrote the chapter on the osteopathic approach to heart failure in the third edition of “Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine,” as well as an article for the ACOFP magazine on the osteopathic approach to the renal and urinary system, and he contributed to the AOA OMT billing and coding guide. Brian has been a musician for a long time and continues to write and perform music to this day.
