Modern Jiu Jitsu by Chelsea Leah
Chelsea Leah is one of the world’s top female Black Belts. Her many accomplishments include receiving her from Black Belt Andre Galvao, submitting all of her opponents on her way to winning the Worlds as a Brown Belt, and medaling as a Black Belt at the World, Pan American, and European Championships. She also teaches at the Mendes Bros Art of Jiu Jitsu Academy.
Chelsea began Jiu Jitsu when she was 12 years old. However, unlike today, when most academies offer specific kids programs, Chelsea was forced to enroll in adult sessions. Despite these challenges, as well as her considerably larger training partners’ constant attempts to sit on her head, she swiftly advanced through the belts. Chelsea got her Blue Belt at the age of 16 and went on to win the adult division of the Pan Ams shortly after.
After many years of touring the world, teaching, and training with some of the world’s finest BJJ players, Chelsea won the IBJJF World Championships as a Brown Belt in 2014. What makes this accomplishment even more astounding is that she defeated all of her opponents on route to the gold medal. Chelsea got her Black Belt from Andre Galvao on the podium after her outstanding performance.
Chelsea relocated to Newport Beach shortly after getting her Black Belt to study with the Mendes Brothers and master their brand of Jiu Jitsu. The Bros immediately recognized her abilities as both a competitor and an instructor, and they invited her to teach at their academy, the Art of Jiu Jitsu. Chelsea eagerly accepted their offer and spent the following three years teaching at AOJ.
Chelsea is regarded as one of the top female athletes on the globe. She has medaled in nearly every major tournament and competed in professional Jiu Jitsu events such as Metamoris and the 5 Super League.
Chelsea, in addition to being a high-level BJJ competitor, often gives seminars around the United States and Europe. She is well-known for her technical skills and straightforward teaching approach.
And she’s done it all with a highly efficient combination of traditional and modern Jiu Jitsu methods.
