Chris began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in 1990. Chris stayed in litigation after leaving the District Attorney’s Office in 1992, handling malpractice claims and various sorts of proceedings ranging from basic personal injury cases to sophisticated contract and business conflicts. Chris joined a multi-state law company in 1999 and assisted in the establishment of an independent Connecticut office. He mostly handled professional liability claims and cases involving insurance agents and brokers at that business. Since then, he has continued to concentrate his business in the field of professional liability, representing not only insurance agents and brokers, but also attorneys, real estate brokers, and architects and engineers. He developed substantial familiarity with insurance policies while representing insurance agents and brokers, and he has utilized that knowledge to successfully settle many insurance coverage issues for insurance carriers as well. Chris founded the legal practice Keidel, Weldon & Cunningham with Jim Keidel and Steve Cunningham in 2008. Chris has primarily focused his practice in New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania over the years, but due to his significant expertise in the area of professional liability, he has been retained by carriers nationwide and in the United States Virgin Islands to become admitted pro hoc vice in order to work with their local counsel. Chris writes articles and gives talks about E&O liability prevention for insurance agents and brokers. The Insurance Departments in several jurisdictions have licensed him as a continuing education instructor.

Jim began his legal career as an in-house attorney for a big life insurance business in the late 1980s. After several years of managing life insurance disputes, Jim joined an upstate New York legal company that specialized in representing insurance agents and brokers in all aspects of their business in 1990. Jim chartered their New York City office, transforming it from a sole proprietorship to a fully staffed mid-sized firm. Because of his huge success with the New York City office, he was requested to open their Connecticut branch with similar success in 1999. Jim was promoted to managing partner and is now in charge of the firm’s professional liability practice. Jim founded Keidel, Weldon & Cunningham, LLP in 2008 with Chris Weldon and Steve Cunningham. Since 1990, Jim has solely handled high exposure, complicated professional liability claims and litigation involving insurance agents and brokers, as well as provided loss avoidance advice to insurance agents and brokers. Jim has been certified as a continuing education instructor by insurance departments in all 50 states. For almost two decades, he has delivered the annual E&O loss management seminar to IIABNY members. He routinely performs E&O audits and private E&O courses at insurance firms and brokerages around the country. He also advises insurance agents and brokers on all other aspects of their operations, such as regulatory compliance, contract negotiations, and employee difficulties. Jim is a frequent mediator and arbitrator in high-exposure insurance coverage issues.
