DescriptionDuring tough times in our life, self-compassion is a sense of warm, connected presence. It is an inner strength that may be developed both within and outside of the consultation room. During therapy, self-compassion can assist a therapist in recognizing and “being with” painful feelings inside oneself, allowing them to stay connected with their clients – a vital component of therapeutic presence and a critical component of competent management of the therapeutic encounter. To assist therapists in maintaining compassionate present in treatment, a short self-compassion practice will be taught.
