The most successful exercises do not have to be “novel.” I believe we can all agree that squats, deadlifts, and pull-ups should be the foundation of any program. One of the best aspects of these exercises is that they seek to integrate the body into a functional whole, and advanced core training should be no exception.
Before we begin, I must say that I am one of the most boring people on the planet, and I make no claim to have devised any of the exercises in this program. If it was made or brought to my notice by someone else, I’ll give credit where credit is due.
Listed here are a few of the core workouts that we’ve been utilizing at the IFAST facility. You may have seen one or two varieties previously, but there are plenty that you haven’t seen or tried before… and that’s where the real fun begins!
Pushing a Split-Stance Cable
Let’s begin with a “easy” workout. Set up on a cable crossover machine with a D-handle and put the cable slightly below hip height to do the split-stance cable push.
Grab the grip with your right hand and place your left leg in front of you, facing away from the weight stack. Before you begin pushing, consider the following brief signals, which are essential in all split-stance variations:
Consider yourself tall. Increase the distance between your hips/pelvis and the top of your head. The majority of people have a propensity to over-arch.
Stomach cramps Someone will hit you in the stomach. What are you going to do?
Butt close. Consider driving the hip of your trailing leg forward. ?…
