Our health is determined by a variety of factors – genetics, environment, behavior. What causes health disparities in a population? Dr. Danielle Barnett-Trapp addresses this complex topic.
Objectives:
- Distinguish health disparities, health inequality, health equity and the social determinants of health
- Interpret implicit (unconscious) bias and the affect it has on health care delivery
- Outline local and national strategies aimed at addressing health disparities
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.
Danielle Barnett-Trapp, DO is a graduate of A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine Arizona. She completed her residency and served as chief resident in family medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. She went on to complete an Academic fellowship through the University of Arizona. Currently, Dr. Barnett-Trapp is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Midwestern University in the Department of Family Medicine. Aligning with her passion for underserved populations, she is the co-course director of an elective course offered at Midwestern University that focuses on social determinants of health and addressing barriers to care.
