The purpose of this presentation is to describe the lessons learnt by a big health system in preparing for and subsequently caring for COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
The following are the learning objectives:
Recognize the crucial necessity and complexity of a major health-care system preparing for COVID-19.
Discuss the lessons gained while preparing for, and then caring for, COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
In Creve Coeur, Missouri, David Tannehill DO is a Critical Care (Intensivist) expert. He attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school, then St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur for residency and fellowship. Dr. Tannehill is the Mercy Clinic Clinical Director of Critical Care Medicine, the Immediate Past-President of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS), and a Past-President and current member of the Missouri Board of Professional Registration for the Healing Arts. Dr. Tannehill is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Saint Louis University, as well as a faculty Intensivist at Mercy Hospital St. Louis and the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program at Saint Louis University. During his work at Mercy Clinic and Mercy Virtual in St. Louis, MO, he received several teaching excellence awards and was instrumental in the development of Mercy’s sepsis program. His guidance has aided in the development of the Missouri medical board’s and MAOPS’ approach to Telemedicine and Physician Wellness. Dr. Tannehill is board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Neurocritical Care Medicine by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties.
