Debra Alvis, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, professor, and workplace wellness consultant whose compassion fatigue trainings have aided healthcare and mental health workers across the country, including the medical staff at a major state university health center.
Dr. Alvis has developed customized and group programs to increase stress resilience, work-life balance, and resiliency for nurses, physicians, social workers, counselors, and others who work in positions that place a high demand on empathy. Her experience working in a variety of medical and mental health settings has given her a great grasp of these demands and their potential impact on professionals from many disciplines.
Dr. Alvis also founded and directed the Mind/Body Program at the University of Georgia, which specializes in treating anxiety, stress, and depression in people who have physical health conditions as well as co-morbid mental health disorders.
Dr. Alvis teaches and organizes retreats all over the world, and she has a private clinic in Georgia where she helps people suffering from anxiety, trauma, shame, depression, and relationship issues. She is still a professor at the University of Georgia, where she supervises PhD students’ clinical work, teaches health psychology, and co-directs a research team.
