This DVD expands on “Combining Stick and Footwork.” CS&F was Dog Brothers Martial Arts’ debut DVD, and the first DVD following our “Real Contact Stickfighting” series. In my experience as a fighter and an instructor, most people do not move their feet properly in conjunction with their hitting during a fight. In my experience, most people feel tremendously Caucasian when doing the training required to attain talents that will truly manifest in the adrenal state. This is why CS&F adopted a “basic building blocks” approach.
Although it begins with the “basic power combo,” which I consider to be extremely important, practical, and accessible to people relatively early on their path in popping their opponents’ bubbles and cracking them in the head, the Snaggletooth Variations has more material aimed at intermediate and advanced practitioners and fighters. Most folks will need time to process the concepts, information, and training progression.
Its footwork and stickwork are both strongly bilateral. It is both single and double stick, however owing to the progression, each stick may and does operate as a single stick in the double stick.
Bilateralism serves as the foundation for 360-degree abilities. It employs the “attacking block” idea (and if you have already worked with our “Attacking Blocks” DVD, this will help).
The Snaggletooth Variations “breaks the mirror” as it develops. The phrase “mirror” refers to patterns in which the right constantly meets the right, the left always meets the left, and so on. When the mirror is broken, it implies that left meets right or vice versa. Breaking the mirror implies that merges, not simply meetings, are part of the repertory.
Guro Lonely Dog assists me in The Snaggletooth Variations, and as always, he performs an excellent job. Because the content has a strong Lameco flavor, the bonus film includes an amusing segment of Punong Guro Edgar Sulite teaching Salty Dog in my garden.
