Module 1: Getting Ready to Take the PlantPlus Plunge (Recorded January 20)
According to research, discussing nutrition book material as a series of courses – covering a piece of the book together each module – is one of the best methods to learn and incorporate the subject into your life.
In this first session, you’ll discover why America is the second fattest nation on the planet and why we rank 51st out of 191 countries in terms of life expectancy. You will learn which tests to request from your doctor in order to measure your development, as well as how to track your progress at home.
During this session, you will:
Receive an introductory meditation that sets you up for success.
Learn why the Standard American Diet (SAD) is causing a chronic illness crisis.
Before modifying your diet, learn how to analyze your health and well-being.
Discover the most effective methods for tracking your development.
Begin with PlantPlus Lite guidelines to jump-start your diet now.
Participate in a small group conversation with your learning pod.
Begin your group coaching experience.
Module 2: Reboot Your PlantPlus (Recorded January 27)
Joan will cover the practical material needed to simplify your new PlantPlus kitchen and kick off the Reboot – a 4-week kickstart to greater health – in this session. You’ll discover what to cut out of your diet, what to add, and why. This session will teach you:
How to Set Up Your Kitchen for PlantPlus Cooking
What’s on and off the Reboot menu for four weeks?
Which foods should you buy organically and which should you buy conventionally?
How to Eat Well and Save Money
Module 3: Recognizing Cravings and Other Diet Busters
(February 3rd recording)
The research is unequivocal. It’s difficult to adjust your diet, whether for general health or weight loss. 95% of people who lose weight return it within a year, typically with rebound pounds, and 95% regain it within 5 years. So, what should a body do? Joan dons her health psychologist hat in this lesson and shows how we may use neuroplasticity science to transform our brain, outsmart cravings, and succeed in making healthful changes through mindfulness training and operant conditioning.
This session will teach you:
How to Apply Neuroplasticity Science to Your Diet Habits
The most effective methods for reducing cravings
The fundamentals of a good mindfulness practice, as well as how beneficial it may be to your health
The elements to incorporating mindfulness into your nutrition program
Module 4: How to Avoid the 5 Pillars of Dietary Doom (Recorded February 10)
Joan thinks that if you have the appropriate knowledge – the true science behind eating – you will be able to make better decisions. Why is eating a pound of veggies (and some fruits) per day so important? Answer: to avoid what Joan refers to as “the five pillars of nutritional doom.” You will discover how the Standard American Diet causes these health-damaging disorders in your body. You’ll also discover how the three macronutrients: lipids, carbohydrates, and protein affect health and weight reduction. This session will teach you:
Understanding and using the science underlying oxidative stress, inflammation, glycation, micronutrient deficiency, and dysbiosis (issues with your gut bacteria community) to improve your health.
How to Avoid the Problems Listed Above With a PlantPlus Diet
Why protein is a slimming food and why fat will not make you fat
Why it is critical to consume as much organic food as possible
Module 5: Is Fat a Friend or a Foe?
(Friday, February 17)
We’ve been told for the past 60 years that fat is our grave enemy. Obesity and chronic illnesses ranging from diabetes to cancer, neurological issues to autoimmune disease have resulted from the effort. Why is this the case? And which fats are beneficial for you and which are terrible for you? We’ll investigate the fat and cholesterol battles and bring lipid research into the twenty-first century. During this session, you will:

Module 6: Ditch the High-Carb and Low-Carb Diets:
Consume Carbohydrates in Moderation!
(February 24, 2009)
Some folks can’t even walk past a bakery without gaining weight, while others can eat all the carbohydrates they want and yet stay slender and healthy. The first step in tailoring your diet to your specific metabolism is determining your carbohydrate tolerance. You’ll discover how to do so, as well as learn about gluten tolerance (and intolerance), insulin sensitivity and resistance, and how to cope with hunger if you’re already overweight. During this session, you will:
Learn how to eat a “carb-reasonable” diet that is adapted to your body rather than the extremes of restricted diets.
Learn how to compare the carbohydrates in the Standard American Diet to PlantPlus to find the right proportion for you.
Understand the connection between leaky gut and gluten, as well as how to maintain a diet that prevents this condition.
Learn how to avoid and manage metabolic syndrome, as well as the consequences of failing to do so!
Module 7: Is Science Scientific?
An Introduction to Nutrition Research So You Don’t Become a Patsy
(March 3rd recording)
Is it true that eating an egg yolk is as hazardous as smoking a cigarette? Can eating meat, soy, dairy, or grains harm you? Diet information in the media is frequently exaggerated. Most doctors can’t make heads or tails of which research to believe. So, in this lesson, we’ll get clever while simultaneously learning about an important piece of research – Stanford’s A to Z Study. It looked at fat and carbohydrate diets ranging from Atkins to Zone. And who is the biggest loser? During this session, you will:
Learn more about the many sorts of scientific investigations and how to approach them to get the truth.
Learn important ideas for vetting a scientific study and what you need to know.
Learn how to use the Internet to obtain information that can help you better understand nutrition and diet as they apply to your specific requirements.
Learn the highlights of the A-to-Z diet customization research and follow-up findings and how to apply them to your life.
Module 8: The Three Genomes and Diet Individualization (Recorded March 10)
We didn’t understand there were two more genomes when we sequenced the human genome a decade ago. The first is the epigenome (epi means above), which explains how environmental influences may either suppress or activate the genes you inherited from your parents. These influences include hormones released by emotions, pollutants, and micronutrients in our diet. The second extra genome (99 percent of our genetic material) belongs to our gut microorganisms, which outnumber mammalian cells in our bodies by a factor of ten. Learning more about this groundbreaking substance will change your perspective on diet. During this session, you will:
Learn more about your genetic code and how it influences your eating choices.
Learn whether genetic testing is required for diet customisation.
Learn how to improve your “epigenome” for a healthier, happier you.
Learn how to provide your gut microorganisms with the nutrients they require.
Module 9: Ethical and Sustainable Food Selection
(March 17th recording)
Michael Pollan, the food expert, reminds us that “we eat whatever what we eat consumes.” So, let’s optimize the things we eat, from vegetables to meat and eggs to fruits, because our decisions may influence how food is farmed. Are you eating foods that encourage sustainability for the Earth, our children, and our children’s children? Dr. Joan’s superfoods will also be discussed. Why are they healthy, and how can you include them into your quick PlantPlus meals?
