The Braden QD scale was supposed to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) in pediatric patients by improving risk assessment and management (Curley et al., 2018). Prior to deployment (Q1 2020), the incidence of HAPI was 3%, but after implementation, it was 0%. (Q2 2020). The data was collected during an eight-week period. The study comprised 418 kids hospitalized to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Positive results were observed in 26 (6%) of the patients. An intervention was carried out in each case (100% compliance). For 20 of the 26 patients (77%), a skin care regimen was developed. Shift documentation was omitted at least once in 222 situations (53%). The initiative illustrates the successful application of the Braden QD scale in addressing the prevalence of MDRPI. It emphasizes the significance of effective risk assessment in promoting the adoption of nursing interventions for at-risk patients.
Dr. Swanson earned her BSN from Creighton University, her MSN in Population Health from Boise State University, and her DNP in Healthcare System Leadership from Chamberlain University. Dr. Swanson’s clinical practice has mostly been in neonatal critical care and pediatrics in rural and urban settings. The ANCC has qualified her as a Nurse Leader Executive. She is presently the PATHS Program Manager at St. Luke’s Health System. Dr. Swanson is an EBP specialist who likes educating and mentoring nurses and clinicians on how to use the EBP model to enhance patient and staff outcomes. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association of Idaho, and Sigma Theta Tau.
Goals of the Course
1st Objective
Discuss the implications of the Braden QD scale for risk assessment.
Goal No. 2
Using an evidence-based practice model, describe the important components of a successful practice transformation.
3rd Objective
