The three advertising phases with ZERO investment resulted in a million dollars in sales in five months. Phase 1 – INSTAGRAM AFFILIATE MARKETING
I know it seems incredible to be able to set up an internet business and start selling the following day. But wait! The Huffington Post also did it! I set up my social media profiles and decided to embark on my famous quest to reach the 12k mark. To do this, I chose to concentrate my efforts on a single social media outlet.
My strategy was to message and email key Instagram influencers and fan pages and ask them to join me. And by join me, I mean become a member of my “sales team,” also known as affiliate marketing. Fortunately, there are various choices for connecting an affiliate program with your store through the Shopify app store. You may then customize your terms and commission structure. I picked Affiliately; I’m not sure why I chose them in the first place, but it seemed like the correct decision at the time, presumably because they provide a 30-day free trial. Yes, I’m still using them despite the fact that I’ve invested nothing.
So all I had to do was convince influencers or fan sites to join my affiliate scheme. Isn’t it simple? It wasn’t exactly simple, since it took a long time and was met with a lot of rejection. At this point, I declined to perform any upfront paid shoutouts because I wanted these folks to establish their value and earn more than they would have with a single paid shoutout. Isn’t it true that my loss is their gain? However, doing so meant that I was not exposed to any danger.
Repeat (I’d want to underline that I was on my phone and computer for 10+ hours a day, if not more, because of all the back and forth contact).
By the midway point of the month, I had already surpassed the 12k barrier and pushed through to my first 4k in sales in one day. Oh, and I spent 5 days at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas (for those who don’t know, it’s the largest music event in the Western Hemisphere). So, yes, I was dancing at the time. However, during my downtime at the hotel, I had to process orders on Oberlo (I did not have a VA (Virtual Assistant) at the time).
And, upon my return, I resumed my conquest in order to attain an expanded objective of $60,000 in sales. Rinse and repeat again, baby!
By the end of the month, I’d gone insane. I was thrilled that my experiment had gone so well, but there had to be a way to automate some of this. I decided to go to upwork.com and look for a virtual assistant. I lucked to hit gold with a VA who had prior expertise with Shopify, Oberlo, customer service, and, well, pretty much everything I needed help with at the moment. By the next day, she was managing all of the things I didn’t want to perform like a boss, allowing me to focus only on IG marketing.
Then I realized that this strategy would be useless for scaling higher. I was performing this experiment to liberate myself from a 9-5 job for good, not to return to one. Fortunately, I chance to attend a webinar that provided enough gold without committing to a course that cost several thousand dollars at the time and included Facebook advertisements. I chose to put the knowledge I gained from the webinar to use in my business. Fortunately, when I first set up my business, I was wise enough to install the magical Facebook Pixel. That is, Facebook was gathering information on my visitors and customers the entire time. My assumption at the time was that I could simply take what I had learnt on the webinar to my shop and grow it.
FACEBOOK PHASE 2
July 2016 was going to be an incredible month, and maybe one of my favorite months to date due to how much I learnt. With my dependable VA by my side, I was able to concentrate on learning the ins and outs of Facebook marketing and introducing new goods to test. So, without hesitation, I set an ambitious target of DOUBLING my sales from last month’s total of $60,000. Actually, I shocked myself the previous month, so I believed if I kept the same approach, I could get 120k. Furthermore, the Oberlo blog included a tale about a man who made a million dollars in sales in just eight months.
Now it’s time to put my theory to the test…
And, to cut a long tale short, it worked!
And I did it with far greater abandon than the prior month. I was able to obtain FREEDOM from the 9-5. People fantasize about their ideal lifestyle. Especially when I have so little duties. There was no house, no ties, just a girlfriend and a little little puppy.
I traveled throughout the United States for enjoyment, spending two weeks in New York City and Colorado while working full-time. During that time, I had my first $10,000 (technically $11,000) sales day.
It was unreal when I struck it on a warm night while watching the ocean waves in NYC’s harbor with my closest buddy. It was also peaceful, possibly because there were no poke stops at the edge. By poke stops, I mean that the Pokemon Go mania was at its pinnacle at the time, so everyone was out walking!
Halfway through the month, I had already surpassed my 120k objective and decided to set another long-term goal. I aimed for $200k since it sounded realistic.
I then gradually expanded my Facebook advertisements to target new nations, which worked so well that I ended up with 240k in sales by the end of July 2016. And, sure, I do sell internationally! Why confine yourself to your own country?
PHASE 3 – DIFFERENTIATE
So, after two tremendously successful “experiments,” I decided, why not diversify some more by doing things that I knew worked in the past for previous businesses? I then included Pinterest traffic in the mix. Fortunately for me, I was fast to automate this procedure, which resulted in more than 200k backlinks by October. Individuals are urls that connect back to your website for those who don’t know what they are.
During this time, I also discovered I was missing out on a significant amount of money by not using email marketing.
I decided to send out my first email campaign for this firm using Mailchimp. Despite the fact that I had no idea what I was doing, everything went smoothly. I just concentrated on emails with plenty of images and little text. After all, it’s easier to market to people who either opted in because they were curious or who are already customers. Hint: Your email inbox is a veritable wealth of examples!
Aside from that, it occurred to me one day to utilize various Facebook fan sites to funnel traffic into my main general business. Thankfully, curating content and scheduling it all ahead of time was simple thanks to a tool I had previously used for a previous business! This engages your audience, builds your pages, and eventually converts them into customers. Everyone wins when you provide entertaining content and generate sales.
Then it was all about how far I could take this company! Was it simply a matter of spending more money on advertising? Kind of… sort of… It was all about taking calculated risks, which thankfully, with data at my disposal, was simple for me to do. This company turned me into a data whore.
I became wiser.

Also during this phase, a lot of personal development took place during this time to reach a “illuminati level status of facebook advertising” Spoiler Alert: Facebook changes all the time so you have to adapt frequently. I researched and TESTED a lot to weed out what actually works for me and what doesn’t.
Then October rolled around, I hit my 1st million in Sales. I beat the guy in Oberlo article by 3 months. Take that! So what was next? Well, for whatever reason, enough is never enough when you are a goal setter. Not that I needed more money, I simply enjoyed the challenge at this point! So now I wanted to see if I could do it faster.
The rest as they say, was history and history has a tendency to repeat itself. Only, I intended for it to be faster! And as you may now realize, I had the Oberlo guy doubled by 8 months! Victory was mine to bask in with unlimited tacos.
