Eliott Hulse – Lean Hybrid Yoga
HOW TO BE STRONG, LEAN, AND MOBILE WITHOUT COMPROMISING ONE FOR THE OTHER
Do you get weary of feeling like a walking ball of scar tissue?
Do you wish to relax your tight, tense muscles while still growing lean, strong muscle?
If yes, continue reading…
Hello, my name is Elliott Hulse…
I was a professional strongman, powerlifter, and D1 college football MVP in the past.
I also run two YouTube channels, which have a combined audience of over 2.5 million subscribers…
Only a few years ago,
I DID SOMETHING THAT SURPRISED EVERYONE.
I stopped uploading to YouTube…
Stop lifting,
And I no longer coach clients.
This is why:
POP, POP, POP, POP
Do you know what I’m talking about?
It’s the sound my biceps produced as I was digging tree roots in my father’s garden.
When I gripped that thick root with my 320-pound farmer’s carrying hands, I had no idea it would be the source of a horrific, career-ending injury.
True enough,
When I heard those horrifying cracks, I looked down at my arm, surprised to find my bicep balled up toward the top of my shoulder.
AND I WEPT
Not because of the discomfort…
Elliott’s Strongman Competition had come to a conclusion, and I sobbed.
I have to exterminate the strongman rival within me.
I saw myself as a cowboy who had to shoot his horse after it broke its leg.
However, the injuries did not stop there…
A few years later, in a bizarre trampoline accident, I had another chronic injury.
After that, I had a hernia fixed.
Then I strained my other biceps.
Then there was my Achilles.
And, for a time…
I WAS SWAYING LIKE A MODERN-DAY PIRATE.
The harsh reality is that
These severe injuries could not have been avoided with any amount of remedial activity.
Before these injuries, I was well-versed in corrective exercise.
I was foam rolling, stretching, and mobilizing my body, as you surely do.
But that couldn’t halt the onslaught of injuries…
Finally, with the accumulation of all of these traumas…
THEY COMMANDED ME TO STOP LIFTING.
And, in response, Elliott should turn off YouTube.
With all of these ailments, I didn’t think I was much use to the fitness community.
So now, these persistent injuries have not only damaged my Strongman, but they have also ruined my life.
However, it also brought my career to a halt.
It was a chilly winter…
I was perplexed.
I had to withdraw from the world and do a lot of self-reflection.
IT WAS TIME TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING NEW.
I considered calisthenics and gymnastics, but there were some parts that didn’t sit well with me.
Then someone brought up yoga…
“I’m not a yoga person.”
I’m a big man, I’m past the point of flexibility, I’m made to carry heavy stuff, not do down dogs and warrior 3s in crotch-suffocating jeans.
But then there’s this:
I MET A MAN IN BRIEFS WITH A PAINTED FACE DOING HEADSTANDS…
BKS Iyengar was the name (weird name, I know),
And in this video, this yoga teacher portrayed yoga in an incredibly stunning way.
He was performing difficult yoga poses in only his underwear in front of a gathering of men in business suits who were as fluid as a river. Not only was he demonstrating his suppleness, flexibility, and balance, but also his strength.
This would attract the curiosity of everyone.
Soon after, I began researching him and his beliefs.
And it proved to be the final nail in the coffin, as I soon came across a video that discussed the confluence of yoga, breath, and mind.
Specifically, how yoga may help you not just become more flexible and structurally healthy, but also how it can help you breathe deeper, feel more grounded, and stay peaceful even in the most stressful situations.
Something that we may all benefit from…
But that wasn’t the end of it…
I DID 90% YOGA FOR OVER A YEAR!
And I received some fantastic rewards!
I had the following experiences:
Increased Mobility
Improved Body Awareness in Space
Muscle Soreness is reduced.
Breathing more deeply
More relaxed in stressful situations
Most significantly…
My muscular imbalances began to correct themselves, my ailments faded, and I felt as new as a hundred dollar bill.
But,
A MAJOR PROBLEM ARISED
I saw a significant reduction in certain critical areas…
My weight has dropped to its lowest point since I was 17 years old.
I grew WEAK,
Power was cut off.
My stamina was shot.
I went from being a Division I football star and a fiery strongman to a flexible hippy dwelling in the sky…
Worse still…
MY ALPHA AGGRESSION HAD DISAPPEARED.
The component that shaped me into a man.
I become a beta tester.
And when I discovered this…
exactly like you would…
I dashed back to the ironing board.
But,
THINGS BECAME WORSE…
I wasn’t the same person I used to be.
And my physique couldn’t handle weights as well…
I was too shaky to handle hefty loads or even abrupt, strong motions.
My body immediately burned out.
Muscle imbalances have reappeared.
The joint ache has returned.
Posture rapidly worsened.
And the vexations that I had sought to avoid by turning to yoga crept back up on me once I started lifting again.
HOW I FINALLY MIXED LIFTING WITH YOGA
Two things were really significant to me,
Two things that have benefited everyone on the planet…
And I HAD to get them to work together.
I wanted to experiment with strength training settings in conjunction with carefully chosen yoga routines.
So that the person may keep their strength, power, and size eternally while also working the scar tissue, lubricating the joints, and creating improved posture.
Finally, and most significantly,
Perform it WITHOUT overtraining.
I HIT THE SWEET SPOT!
I didn’t have to lift so much that my muscular imbalances reappeared.
But that was more than enough lifting to keep my growth going.
And the yoga movements were hard, working out fascia knots.
But not so much that it hampered my lifting.
I HAVE SUCCESSED IN CREATING AN UNLOCKED, MOBILIZED, FLUID BODY THAT IS STILL STRONG AND POWERFUL.
How did I reach this equilibrium?
By carefully adjusting tempos, rep ranges, and volume to concurrently activate power, strength, and hypertrophy systems,
And,
By selecting yoga routines that complemented the strength exercises I picked.
And my body was feeling better than it had in a long time.
The combined effects of yoga and strength training were instantly felt, and the two even crossed over into each other –
Strength training aids my ability to flow, but yoga, shockingly, aids my strength training abilities.
Since discovering these advantages….
I’ve chosen to share it with the rest of the world.
Not as an exercise, but as a test…
