Those of us who work with kids and their families are subjected to a barrage of emotions. There is uncertainty about shifting ethical standards and regulations, dread that our activities may cause long-term developmental damage, and worry that we will mistakenly cross a boundary that will imperil our professional license and put us in legal danger. In this setting, we may find it difficult to perform as professionals and assist our clients.
Terry Casey, PhD, HSP will provide you with a solid foundation for evaluating ethical options when working with minors and their families by combining a step-by-step guide to an effective decision-making model, the most up-to-date ethical codes and legal statutes, and lessons from 30 years as a clinician and ethics professor. You will feel much more confident in your decisions on required reporting, access to minors’ records, parental rights, boundary difficulties, touch, and other issues.
TERRY CASEY, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and HSP health care provider with over 30 years of professional experience, including a 16-year stint as the director of counseling and psychological services for a non-profit organization with over 30 counselors in over a dozen locations. He has a private practice in Franklin, Tennessee, and teaches counseling ethics and professional concerns at Lipscomb University’s graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling, as well as guest lecturing at Trevecca Nazarene University’s PhD program in Clinical counseling. Dr. Casey also served as the chair of the Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors’ Association’s ethical committee for numerous years and as an advisor to graduate counseling programs at two institutions. He has given several ethical presentations to groups such as the American Counseling Association, Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association, Nashville Area Association of Christian Counselors, and others.
