This presentation will show you how the illegal drug misuse environment is always evolving. Physicians must be informed of the many options, trends in use/abuse, and new toxicological information that may apply to their patient population.
Objectives & Goals:
Explain the existing illegal drug economy and environment.
Define critical toxidromes that necessitate specialized therapy.
Identify new toxidromes identified in relation with newly illegal substances.
Dr. Schwarz is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, as well as the Director of the Medical Toxicology Fellowship, Section Chief in Medical Toxicology, and Advisory Dean in the Office of Student Affairs. He is a member of many committees at Washington University and Barnes Jewish Hospital. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Schwarz also volunteers for the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American College of Medical Toxicology, the Missouri College of Emergency Physicians, and the Midwest Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
