Jiu-Jitsu (Brazil) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that emphasizes grappling, particularly ground combat, in order to acquire a dominant position from which to compel an adversary to surrender. It promotes the idea that a smaller, weaker individual may effectively defend oneself against a bigger, stronger adversary by employing leverage and good technique. BJJ training may be used for self-defense, sport grappling contests (with or without a uniform), and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Gustavo Dantas demonstrates the techniques he used to become a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion. Andre Pederneiras awarded him his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. He won the 98 Rio De Janeiro State Championships, the 1997 National Championships, the 96 World Championships, and the 95 and 97 Rio De Janeiro State Championships. Dantas competed in the invitation-only Abu Dhabi Combat Championships in 2001 and 2003. His record in No Holds Barred is 1-0. Andre Pederneiras, Fernando Cruz, Vitor Ribiero, and Rento Verrissimo have all trained under him.
