Helen Schucman and William Thetford – A Course In Mirades
A Course in Miracles (commonly referred to as ACIM or “the Course”) is a book believed by its followers to be their “spiritual path”. According to psychologist Helen Schucman, she and psychologist William Thetford “scribed” the book by means of a process emanating from a supernatural source through a form which Schucman referred to as “inner dictation”. According to Schucman, the source of her channeling was Jesus Christ. The Course’s lessons have been linked to the core tenets of Eastern religion. While The Course’s message use conventional Judeo-Christian vocabulary, it does not adhere to the beliefs of those religions. According to J. Gordon Melton, it is most popular among individuals who have been disillusioned with mainstream Christianity. It has been described as the most apparent choice for the sole text that is “holy scripture” in the New Age movement by Melton and Wouter Hanegraaff. Since its first release in 1976, over 1.5 million copies have been sold globally in sixteen different languages.

The acim (“A Course in Miracles”) is a one-of-a-kind metaphysical program. I have a few suggestions and ideas for you to think about. I make no attempt to change or miscreate the “course,” only to put my own perspective on it. Be aware that the course is not groundbreaking in the sense that it derives the majority of its concepts and ideas from Hindu and maybe Zoroastrian thinking systems. These are the primary difficulties I have with the “course”; the cause of the split, as portrayed by the “course,” just does not make sense to me. The remedy appears to be single-minded, hence the “silver bullet” approach that Americans like. The dilemma for me is the perennial philosophical question of whether to embrace or reject the “reality” of which we dream. This is the million-dollar question that philosophers and intellectuals must address. The intellectual thought is to reject it, but there is a major issue there as well. So, for me, the genuine solution is to embrace life and live it understanding that it is a dream. Personally, I don’t mind rebirth and like to live the life of a kid or adolescent unless the conditions are too difficult. Who could have predicted that? You can’t resist the dream; you can only embrace it and know that taking it seriously is a bad idea. I know a lot of folks who ended up laughing because they “fought” their ego too hard. In terms of the source of the split, I learnt it differently in Yoga and it makes more sense to me. What I’ve discovered as the “initial cause” was a “thirst for expression” that “created” the Universe as it is. The separation is the biggest concern, but there are others as well. However, because it is not made, but rather sprang from Infinity. (Because a perfect deity (infinity) cannot “create” the imperfect Universe, emanation occurs.) The “course” also fails to cover important concerns, such as how do we deal with injustice, corruption, and political difficulties in the “dream”? Do we bother voting at all? I am worried that many individuals will misunderstand the “course” and implement it zealously. I feel that forgiveness is the essential, but other aspects, such as “service,” may also be important. I don’t believe or like any of the “silver bullet” theories popular in “western” esoterism. Because of these seeming discrepancies, a cottage industry was born, writing about a book, teaching the course, and, of course, reinterpreting some of the ideas contained in the over 1000 page of content. Gary Renard is one author and instructor whose perspective tries to fill these logical gaps. He does not, however, go far enough. Gary had a 9-year connection with two ascended masters who reinterpreted the “course’s” primary themes. My advice is to utilize your brains and common sense to comprehend these vital yet unpleasant concepts, and to remember one key truth. “acim” was mentioned in the Hindu Vedas long before Jesus ever trod the world. —Editors’ Pick (Murine Press)
