We spend so much of our time worrying about everything that is changing or that needs to be fixed. How do you maintain your connection to your inner calm in the face of something as ordinary as professional stress or as life-changing as post-traumatic stress disorder? More importantly, how can you attain this objective in a way that fits into your already hectic schedule?
Integrative Restoration (or iRest®) is a secular, research-based mindfulness practice with origins dating back more than 2,000 years to an ancient type of meditation known as yoga nidra (Sanskrit for “yoga of sleep”). Unlike many other kinds of meditation, the advantages of iRest® are supported by credible research and have been validated by substantial data. It has proven to be so successful that the US military makes widespread use of it.
From the first lesson, you’ll learn about the science behind why and how this practice works for issues including sleeplessness, trauma, stress, pain, and more. This guided meditation technique has assisted special operations personnel in increasing their resiliency, CEOs in managing stress, cancer patients in coping with pain, and trauma survivors in experiencing safety and healing. Molly Birkholm, your instructor for this course, most recently taught iRest® to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teachers following the Parkland school shooting to help those affected by violence find calm, heal, and learn how to process and observe the experience rather than feeling it over and over.
Using iRest® practices, you may begin your path toward inner serenity as a first-hand experience rather than a lofty theory. This method of meditation:
teaches you to live from a place where good ideas, words, and deeds naturally occur, reveals a style of living in which every situation is coupled with its right reaction, and encourages you to stay connected to a level of awareness regardless of life’s problems
Molly Birkholm of the iRest® Institute, a trauma specialist and iRest® trainer, has experienced the advantages of iRest® Yoga Nidra, utilizing it to overcome physical and mental trauma and reach a more balanced, serene existence. And now, with iRest®: Integrative Restoration Yoga Nidra for Deep Relaxation, she brings the practice directly into your life and home. Ms. Birkholm’s passion, devotion, and enthusiasm for this course indicate how her success with iRest® was personally significant and motivating, allowing her to bring compassion and understanding to every aspect of the practice. You’ll get a careful and complete introduction to this unique style of guided meditation and the ways it may benefit you as both a practical tool and a form of deep meditation in 24 lessons and full-length practice sessions. These sessions take you through each of the ten essential phases of the iRest® Yoga Nidra practice, alternating between the theoretical and the actual, the philosophical and the scientific.
Discover the Steps to Inner Peace
While other kinds of meditation require you to block out the outside world, iRest® practice allows you to be proactive with your physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts. It enables you to view them as messengers telling you of what needs to be seen and heard inside yourself and in the world.
The 10 stages of yoga nidra developed by clinical psychologist and yogic scholar Richard Miller are at the heart of iRest®. These ten phases form the foundation of Ms. Birkholm’s course, and they guide you through the full meditation practice in a comprehensive and pleasant manner.
“Think of yoga nidra as a file system for your mind,” Ms. Birkholm adds, “that takes you through an experience of your body; breath; and any sensations, emotions, or beliefs that may be there.” “It then takes you gradually into greater realms of conscious awareness and silence.”
Here are some of the ten steps that Ms. Birkholm walks you through in these seminars.
Step 2: Determine Your Goal.
Consider what would bring you into harmony on that particular day when you establish your objective for your iRest® meditation practice, whether it’s coping with anger or making an important choice. Setting an intention at the outset of your practice helps your mind become more concentrated.
Step 4: Pay Attention to Your Body.
Rotating your attention across your body in patterns that match with the sensory and motor cortices in your brain is an important aspect of each iRest® practice session. This phase is intended to lower your heart and respiration rates and induce deep sleep.
Step 5: Pay Attention to Your Breathing.
Your breath is the only autonomic nervous system function that you have direct control over. One of the most powerful methods to elicit your relaxation response is through mindfulness breathing, which may be done by watching the natural flow of your breath or by adopting a range of breathing techniques.
Step 7: Address Your Mind.
In the same manner that you engage with your emotions in iRest®, you must also address your beliefs, pictures, and memories. You will discover how to offer them all equal voices so that they may be felt, seen, and heard. The idea is to recognize that there is nothing you need to flee in order to achieve calm.
Later iRest® workshops will help you improve your knowledge and newfound abilities by examining how iRest® Yoga Nidra may help you with everything from improving your sleep patterns and reducing specific forms of short-term and chronic pain to managing stress and healing from traumatic events.
Take advantage of full-length yoga sessions.
iRest® Yoga Nidra employs a number of approaches to elicit your relaxation response, resulting in an improvement in your body’s ability to remain resilient in the face of adversity. Ms. Birkholm, on the other hand, compares resilience to a muscle. You must practice to strengthen it.
This course includes a mix of short and long-form iRest® Yoga Nidra practice sessions that can be used in conjunction with other workshops or on their own. Several courses end with brief meditation practices, while others allow you to join Ms. Birkholm and several students in our on-site yoga studio.
Ms. Birkholm assists you with: with the care, thoughtfulness, and direction you’d expect from a master meditation instructor, Ms. Birkholm assists you with:
right stance, experiencing your body, discovering unintentional bliss, nurturing your inner resource, and much more
The outcome is an integrated learning experience that allows you to engage in guided meditation techniques that have been adopted and effectively deployed by organizations such as big enterprises and the United States Department of Defense.
A Captivating (and Empowering) Experience
You’ll discover everything you need to learn and practice iRest® Yoga Nidra with iRest®. Ms. Birkholm’s lessons are a constant companion no matter what techniques work best for you, what objectives you have for your practice, or what pain or trauma you’re attempting to overcome. “You may realize you’re more present and alert after practicing iRest®,” Ms. Birkholm says. Colors may appear brighter. Tastes may appear to be richer. However, it is crucial to note that heightened awareness will typically fade if you do not keep a constant practice.”
This course is an empowered (and empowering) learning experience with the ability to transform the way you react to the world. It is crafted with joy, calm, and wisdom—and supported by scientific rigor.
