The Training is structured into five pillars and will provide you with an intensive experience in developing skills with today’s best peace leaders:
Healing Personal and Collective Wounds Through Deep Personal Peace
Peace Communication
Managing System Change
Peace Activation and Organization
We will hear the finest of James O’Dea’s teachings in the first four Pillars of Peacebuilding sessions, relying on ideas and practical tools from his blockbuster books Cultivating Peace and The Conscious Activist: Where Activism Meets Mysticism.
The two sessions that follow will include two key faculty members on the techniques and peace practices that they utilize in their work. These sessions feature live instruction as well as the greatest core faculty interviews from prior Peace Ambassador Trainings.
All calls will be facilitated by Philip Hellmich and/or Emily Hine, who will also conduct some sessions. Throughout the workshop, they will weave and integrate these lessons into a unified blueprint for peacebuilding, from the personal to the global.
You’ll also have activities, readings, and assignments to help you gain a deeper understanding of the content and work closely with other training participants from around the world.
Pillar 1: Developing a Deep Personal Peace

Session 1: Peace and Freedom from Within (Recorded January 14)
James O’Dea is a member of the faculty (full bio)
James will kick off the program with a motivational talk about what it means to be a Peace Ambassador in today’s society. He challenges us to take responsibility for building inner serenity while acting in the world with genuine integrity. “The peacebuilder must develop an astounding skillfulness in proposing answers, avoiding the blame game, and mediating between viewpoints that are imprisoned inside self-limiting categories,” James writes.
Simultaneously, the Peace Ambassador does not take himself/herself too seriously. “A world without laughter is neither secure nor serene,” James adds. For example, “the fundamentalists are not having a good time!”
You will learn the following throughout this session:
Examine how your inner moral maps, belief systems, and psychological views shape your interaction with the outside and vice versa.
Identify the impediments to unleashing your own inherent characteristics, abilities, and capacities.
Learn personal peace techniques that can help you get into your deepest nature and provide the groundwork for genuine inner peace as.jpg
